Solid carbide end mills for moulds (end mills, ball nose cutters, Torus cutters)
VHM Mold-Making Cutters by Nachreiner
In tool and mold making, the goal is to create or replicate three-dimensional contours and form elements. The more intricate the shapes, the more essential high-performance, precision tools become—such as those offered in the Nachreiner range. Whether you need torus cutters, copy mills, shank cutters, ball-end mills, micro-mills, or other solid carbide (VHM) mold-making cutters, Nachreiner provides the highest quality materials and craftsmanship to ensure perfect processing of your workpieces.
Ball end milling cutters and torus milling cutters
Copy milling of three-dimensional external and internal contours requires specialized mold cutters that allow continuous adjustment of the contact area with the workpiece. Torus cutters and ball-end mills (sometimes called ball nose mills) meet these requirements. Both tools can be grouped under the umbrella term "copy mills." When using ball-end mills, you achieve a hemispherical contour in your machining process. With solid carbide construction (optionally with coating), these tools enable you to machine a wide variety of materials with different properties. A unique feature of ball-end mills is that they are designed for drilling and can plunge into the material at an angle. Torus cutters are also suitable for milling three-dimensional shapes; however, unlike ball nose mills, they can also produce perfectly flat surfaces. Both tools can plunge into materials at an angle. Copy mills are available with internal cooling options to improve heat resistance and chip removal. VHM ball and torus cutters are mostly designed as shank cutters, but interchangeable insert tools are also available. Shank cutters, however, remain the standard design in the Nachreiner range. If you require other shapes, sizes, or types of solid carbide mold-making cutters, we offer custom-made tools according to your individual specifications. Micro-Mills for Mold-Making Projects
Micro-mills, a special type of shank cutter, have diameters as small as tenths of a millimeter and are made from premium solid carbide as monoblock tools. They typically feature two cutting edges or a ball nose and can be used in a similar manner to their larger counterparts. Due to their small size, the feed rate is limited to a few micrometers. Micro-mills also operate at extremely high speeds, over 40,000 revolutions per minute, to achieve adequate cutting speeds within the material. Micro-mills are essential for applications requiring extremely high precision in mold making.
