They are rarely used in mass production but are considered problem-solvers for specialized areas.

Why Use Thread Milling Cutters?

Both material-removing and non-material-removing methods are used for creating threads. The solid carbide (VHM) thread milling cutter is one of the material-removing tools. With it, you can produce both external and internal threads. It is especially suitable for workpieces with thin wall thickness and offers the advantage of creating both the hole and thread in a single operation. Thread milling cutters can also be used with nearly any material, and regardless of whether a left- or right-hand thread is required, generally only one tool is needed for both. The same applies to different thread sizes. Any resulting chips can be easily removed, and if a tool breaks, it can be extracted without difficulty (unlike a thread tap). Additionally, you benefit from high working and cutting speeds as well as a high feed rate during production.

However, with short-thread milling, a single tool can only create threads with the same pitch, though varying diameters are no issue.
