Center drills Form B
HSS center drills Type B in 60 and 120 degrees
For applications requiring a Type B center drill, we offer high-quality HSS metal drills with centering tips in tip angles of 60 and 120 degrees. This center drill is well-suited for most applications in metalworking. If you require a solution with HSSE due to specific material requirements, please contact us directly so we can find an alternative together. Generally, we can meet the special requirements of most customers within an acceptable cost framework. The tip angles of 60 and 120 degrees refer to the part of the center drill that conically rises from the tip until it reaches the diameter of the shaft. Please check which tip angle you need for your application before placing your order.
Type B center drills for centering with protective chamfer
Type B center drills are used in certain areas of industry and craftsmanship because they are designed for centering with a protective chamfer. They are employed on turned and ground workpieces suitable for processing with HSS center drills. Using a center drill reduces the risk of wandering that exists when pre-drilling with a regular metal drill or twist drill. Wandering of the drill can damage or scratch workpieces, or in the worst case, lead to a skewed hole, rendering the part unusable and causing it to be discarded from production. Type B center drills can sustainably avoid this problem, significantly increasing the efficiency of both series and individual production.
Type B center drills according to DIN 333
The industrial standard DIN 333 defines how tools for creating center holes must be constructed to ensure compliance with the specifications for holes according to DIN 332. The center drills from Nachreiner precisely meet these specifications and are therefore well-suited for adherence to manufacturing standards and quality requirements in industry and serial production. However, a center drill cannot be used for fully drilling deeper holes, as it lacks the necessary guiding chamfers. Additionally, center drills are significantly shorter than other metal drills to enhance stability and reduce lateral forces. Primarily, Type B center drills are used in guided machines, ensuring accurate positioning of the hole at the intended location. This requires correct clamping of the tool. Besides creating pilot holes for twist drills, Type B center drills are also used for other applications, such as when particularly long metal workpieces need to be turned between centers or supported with live centers. In this case, the center hole serves as a receptacle for the respective tools for turning or supporting. If you would like further advice on the topic of center drilling or have other requests or suggestions, feel free to contact the experts at Nachreiner directly. This also applies to inquiries regarding special requirements and specifications.
