Solid carbide twist drills in short and very short versions (Micro Drills)
A special challenge in metalworking is extremely small holes, which are drilled using very short twist drills. Here, the tolerances are especially tight, and precision is crucial for a perfect result in the workpiece. For machining very hard metals, the use of solid carbide twist drills for specific applications is recommended. These short drills, often made to DIN 338 or DIN 1897 standards, are also referred to as micro drills due to their purpose. Since DIN specifications may not be suitable for all applications, factory standards cover certain special requirements. At Nachreiner, solid carbide micro drills in various sizes and designs are available according to factory standards. If you are missing a specific size or other requirements in our range, our technical advisors may be able to suggest an alternative. In exceptional cases, we can also produce special versions on customer request. However, a detailed cost estimate is required, which can only be provided once we have a clear understanding of your specifications. Therefore, it makes sense to contact Nachreiner Tools directly for such projects.
Micro Drills in solid carbide version
The superior quality of solid carbide has proven particularly effective when using micro drills in metal construction and the machining of workpieces. This is due to the extreme load that can act on small drills in the range of 0.01 mm. Depending on the material being processed, HSS or HSSE micro drills are often not suitable for the specific stresses. Even versions with carbide tips are only limited for machining certain high-strength materials, as they simply feature a carbide tip soldered onto a softer base material. A solid carbide drill, however, has the advantage of being crafted entirely from solid carbide, without any weak points that could affect side forces or high temperatures. Additionally, solid carbide micro drills can be coated with special coatings (such as titanium) to increase their durability and performance when drilling in difficult materials, without compromising precision. Overall, solid carbide drills offer higher cutting speeds, which can significantly reduce machining time—a crucial cost factor for large-scale production.
Micro Drills and countersinks in solid carbide according to factory standards
Countersinks are very important when machining holes to ensure that, depending on the need, screw heads, etc., can be flush with the material. In the micro range, countersinks are particularly difficult to handle, which is why we recommend using Nachreiner solid carbide countersinks according to factory standards. Of course, our range also includes many solutions according to DIN standards. For anything not covered by these, factory standards (Company Norm) are often the only solution for special challenges. Please feel free to contact us if you cannot immediately find the right product among our existing items. We will gladly advise you and work with you to find the right drilling tool for your application.
Metal Drills in factory standard versions from Nachreiner
Most HSSE and HSS twist drills on the market are manufactured according to international industrial standards. The most well-known and important standard for the German and European market is DIN in the metric range. However, for specific applications, companies may require different shapes, sizes, and tolerances, which are defined in their own factory standards. Such tools, also known internationally as Company Norm, are of course also available from Nachreiner with the usual quality and reliability. Tools made according to factory standards may deviate partially or entirely from known DIN standards to meet specific special requirements. We are able to produce company-specific factory standards on request in certain quantities. If you need special sizes of HSS and HSSE twist drills (such as XL or micro drills), please contact us. In cooperation with our development department, we can provide an offer tailored to your specifications. Often, however, existing factory standards from our range will also fit. Here is an example selection for VHM, HSSE, and HSS twist drills according to factory standards:
- HSSE twist drills XL
- HSS twist drills XL
- VHM twist drills (extra short; micro drills)
- VHM twist drills as countersinks or high-performance drills
- HSSE and HSS twist drills for your needs
The metal drills in our range are known for their high tool life, excellent precision, and outstanding craftsmanship. Whether you are ordering VHM, HSS, or HSSE twist drills in factory standards, Nachreiner quality has been proven for years. Almost all of the metal drills in our catalog can also be customized and enhanced for special requirements, such as with a special coating. This is recommended if certain environmental conditions would reduce the durability of uncoated HSSE or HSS twist drills. Coatings can also improve drilling properties for specific materials, such as achieving higher processing speeds while maintaining stable temperature resistance. There is almost nothing that cannot be technically realized by us. If you cannot find what you're looking for in the range, our technical advisors are available to provide personalized information.
Regrinding service: Nachreiner cares for your HSS and HSSE twist drills even after purchase
Drills are consumables—no matter how good the material and coating. However, the lifespan of many metal drills can be significantly extended by regrinding. Often, twist drills can be re-sharpened multiple times, which further improves the cost-benefit ratio of the reconditioning process. In any case, regrinding is more cost-effective than buying new high-quality twist drills—especially for very high-quality versions. Regrinding requires special knowledge and grinding tools. If you have the expertise and equipment, you can perform the reconditioning in-house. However, most companies trust the expertise of our staff and make use of our convenient regrinding service, along with a smart exchange shipping solution that is cost-effective and environmentally friendly. Get in touch with us for details and let us restore your valuable tools to an almost perfect condition. This service is also available for third-party products, so don’t hesitate to contact us even if the drills were not purchased from us.
