Applications of VHM reamers in practice
To achieve a perfect surface finish on boreholes in workpieces, the borehole (or a pre-drilled hole) should be drilled slightly under the target diameter—typically 0.1 to 0.2 mm below the specified dimension for the hole—using a twist drill. Often, a countersink is then used to assist the reamer in cutting into the material. There are also VHM reamers available with an angled entry cut that facilitate easier insertion. Reaming ensures the borehole reaches the exact specified diameter with improved surface quality and roundness, as well as greater tolerance precision compared to direct drilling with a twist drill.
Construction of reamers in the Nachreiner range
Reamer construction can vary based on application and tool type, though the general design remains similar across materials (such as HSS, HSSE, or VHM). Solid carbide provides the advantage of efficiently handling harder materials like stainless steel. Nachreiner’s solid carbide reamers are crafted from a single, solid piece of carbide, providing greater stability compared to tools with only carbide-tipped edges. Our VHM reamers are manufactured to high quality standards and are suitable for the needs of leading metalworking companies. Custom VHM reamers are also available on request—just provide us with the desired specifications and application details, and we’ll offer a tailored quote.
Typically, the cutting edges of VHM reamers are located along the tool’s circumference, though reamers with entry cutting edges are available. For efficient chip removal, reamers usually feature chip flutes that run either spirally or axially along the tool. If you have any questions about the application or specific features of our versatile machining tools, feel free to contact the Nachreiner team. We are here to assist you with expert advice, support, and tailored solutions for your unique requirements.
