HSSE and HSS end mills from Nachreiner
In contrast to pure peripheral milling, where the tool axis is parallel to the work surface, face mills are oriented perpendicular to the workpiece’s milling surface – they essentially "mill from above," removing the top layer of material. However, since movements similar to those in peripheral milling are often executed, this process is also referred to as face/peripheral milling. HSSE and HSS face milling cutters according to DIN 841 and DIN 1880 are suitable for machining difficult-to-cut materials. The cutting depth in face milling is determined by the axial engagement of the face milling cutter relative to the workpiece. In addition to the cutting edges on the face, a face milling cutter also features cutting edges on the circumference. One of the significant advantages of using HSS face milling cutters is the high surface finish and accuracy that can be achieved through the face milling process in the work surface. This quality results from the smoothing effects of the face cutter, which generate additional surface hardening through friction forces at the cutting edges. In many cases, no extensive finishing work is required after this process.
Perfect results with Nachreiner HSS face milling cutters
The slightly protruding finishing cutter on Nachreiner face milling cutters is designed as a secondary cutter. Its geometry is transferred to the finished surface of the workpiece. The actual roughing of the material is carried out via the peripheral or main cutting edges, which significantly reduces the cross-section of the chip. However, feed rates can only be generated to a limited extent with face milling cutters because the chip spaces of the multiple cutting edges are very small, which can cause chip buildup, thus prohibiting large feed rates. Theoretically, a face milling cutter can also represent a limited feed movement along the tool axis if necessary.
HSSE and HSS end mills in the Nachreiner range
The following variants are regularly available in our stock as standard HSSE face milling cutters. If you are missing specific variants or have special requests regarding design and material composition, please feel free to contact us. Special coatings or custom designs can be quickly implemented by Nachreiner upon request.
- HSSE Face Milling Cutter (DIN 841 and DIN 1880), Type N
- HSSE Finish-Rough Face Milling Cutter (DIN 1880), Type NF
- HSSE Rough Face Milling Cutter (DIN 1880), Type HR
The relative cutting angle for all variants is 30 degrees. As mentioned earlier, if you have special requests based on specific specifications, we can almost always help with a custom solution. Please directly contact the Nachreiner service team to discuss the details of your requirements and the material composition of the workpieces to be processed. In many cases, we can offer suitable alternatives from our existing cutter program or recommend other cutting tools that may be suitable for your purposes.
